Heartiest congratulations to Adnan Zainal Abidin (C’78, Idris) on his appointment as the new Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer of Gas & New Energy Business at Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). We wish him all success in his future endeavor.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

He joined PETRONAS in 1984 and has spent a total of 35 years in the organisation, in a career which covers various portfolios and positions, from Petrochemicals to LNG, both in projects and operations, as well as in Malaysia and overseas.

Adnan started his career with ASEAN Bintulu Fertilizer (ABF) as a Trainee Engineer. He served ABF until July 1995 before moving to PETRONAS Fertilizer Kedah Sdn Bhd in August 1995 as the Process Manager. In July 1997, he was assigned to become the Project Manager of the PETRONAS Ammonia project. In June 2000, he was appointed as General Manager at PETRONAS Ammonia and later became the Chief Executive Officer in January 2005.

From January 2006 to May 2010, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Egyptian LNG, a joint venture company between PETRONAS, BG Group, EGAS and EGPC. He was appointed to the position of Vice President, Global LNG in June 2010.
