Dato’ Roslan appointed Malaysian Ambassador Designate to Australia

A big congratulations to Dato’ Roslan Abdul Rahman (C’82, Mohd Shah) on his appointment as the Malaysian Ambassador Designate to Australia. He was appointed by a decree from Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah.

Dato’ Roslan Abdul Rahman, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996, having joined the elite Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service a year earlier in 1995. Upon joining the Civil Service, he was appointed as an Assistant Director for the East Asia, Bilateral Trade Division of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Prior to this appointment, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Cuba. He also was the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, where he made history as the first Ambassador of Malaysia residing in Baku, Azerbaijan. He was also the Undersecretary of Finance and Accounts Division from 2010 before he left for Azerbaijan.

He had also served as the Honourable Consul General, Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China from 2007 to 2010; Counselor, at the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok, Thailand from 2005 to 2007; and as Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations, New York, USA, from 1999 to 2002, and concurrently, Alternate Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations Security Council from 1999 to 2001. He also had a tour-of-duty as a Peace Monitor/Operations Officer in the EU-led Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) in May 2006.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia, Dato’ Roslan held numerous posts and at different levels, which include the Finance and Accounts Division, South East Asia and Pacific Division, Multilateral Political Affairs Division and Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) Division.

Dato’ Roslan graduated in 1989 from the then College (now University) of St. Marks and St. Johns, Plymouth, United Kingdom, having read English Literature and Linguistics and awarded a Bachelor of Education (Hons) Degree from University of Exeter. He also holds a few Diplomas namely: Diploma in Public Management, National Institute of Public Management (INTAN), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1996; Diploma in European Studies from The Institut d’études politiques de Paris, France in 1998; and also received a Certificate in General Management Leadership Program at the Columbia Business School, University of Columbia in New York, USA in 2012.

Dato’ Roslan has also been conferred with a number of Medals, Decorations and Orders namely: the Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) in 2006, Companion of the Order of the Crown of the State of Johor (SMJ) in 2007, Member of the Order of the Crown of the State of Kedah (AMK) in 2009; and the Knight Commander of the Order of the Crown of the State of Perak (DPMP) which carries the title “Dato” in 2012.
